“Oma paraska, ich LIEBE DICH”

2500cm / 3500cm

This rug was created during an artist residency in Berlin in 2022. Its shape recreates the sweater my grandmother wore every day. After she passed away, I kept it, initially planning to use its geometric pattern for a textile piece. But as I worked, I realized this image held a deeper meaning.

The piece explores memory, intergenerational connections, and unspoken closeness. It reflects on the emotional distance that can arise between relatives due to unspoken words, misunderstandings, and external pressures. Sometimes, imposed forms of communication push us further apart rather than bringing us closer.

This work became a kind of requiem—a way to preserve memory, reflect on relationships, and express what was left unsaid.

It is titled “Grandmother Paraska, I Love You.”
